2. LAW PRACTICE AREA
Class Action Law Suits
A "class action" is a civil suit brought by one or more people on behalf of themselves and
others who are in a substantially similar
circumstance and where the common issues are the most critical to the lawsuit.
For example, consumers injured by a defective product,
or against the manufacturers for
defective or hazardous products, such as asbestos, certain vaccines, Agent Orange, tobacco,
and breast implants.
Class actions may also be brought on contracts or securities claims.
For example, suppose each member of the class allegedly suffered some harm as a result of the alleged wrong.
The damages each member of the class will vary but the critical issue is whether
the harm caused is common to all class members.
